Faith and Formation
The Federated Church of Ashland
Sundays, March 30 to May 4, 6p.m.

Confirmation classes are designed to prepare us to engage our faith and hopefully lead us to join the church.  This spring, I will lead these interactive, spiritually based times together to prompt honest reflection of our spiritual life and how we fit into the church.  The six weeks will center on the following areas of concentration:

  • 2 weeks: The Church universal, a scriptural and historical overview of the church

  • 2 weeks: What does it mean to be spiritual, with discussions of  conversion, spiritual disciplines (prayer), and how our life interfaces with the people of the world

  • 2 weeks:  The local church, with emphasis on the Federated Church of Ashland , as well as the denominations represented

The classes are open to students and adults.  Chris Taylor and I will be organizing the six meeting times.

In preparation . . .

  • The notebook:  I will give each person a notebook to use as a journal in preparation for the classes.  These notebooks will be private.  I hope that time spent thinking about joining the church will inspire questions and thoughts that you reflect on.  I plan to give them out February 17.

  • The Notecard:  In each notebook will be note cards for you to write questions down, anonymously, if you wish, for us to incorporate into our class discussions.

The mission project:

I am asking the group to organize and initiate some kind of project together.  I will certainly be helpful and assist in anyway I can.  Ideas might include:  raising awareness and support for some ongoing ministry in the community or the world, contacting the town social worker or senior outreach coordinator for opportunities for something “hands on” to plan or contribute.  Also, taking leadership on an ongoing ministry within the church, such as a worship service, or other ongoing ministry.

A snack supper will be provided each week @ 5:30 .  The first night, March 30, the church is hosting a community supper, so we can meet together at 5 for this meal.
